There was a boom in international vacations last year, and according to Tripadvisor’s predictions, the trend will continue in 2024. Among British vacationers, 83% want to spend the same amount, or even more, on travel this year, according to statistics from Tripadvisor, which shows that 62% are planning one-two trips and 31% are planning three-four excursions.
Anyone looking to plan a vacation in 2024 may find ideas, worldwide travel community in the Best of the Best Destinations rankings. With a wide variety of places in 80 countries, the winning destinations are chosen by assessing ratings and rankings over the last 12 months.
According to Sarah Firshein, Head of Editorial at Tripadvisor, “this year’s list of Travellers’ Choice Awards Best of the Best Destinations — totalling a whopping 221 destinations — really reflects that excitement.” This enthusiasm is further bolstered by the fact that 90% of Brits intend to travel as much as last year, if not more.
Dubai, Tokyo, Paris, and Marrakech are just a few of the winners that show how hungry our community is for places with thriving cultural scenes, excellent dining options, and an abundance of exciting things to do. As the area has completely opened up post-pandemic, it’s fantastic to see long-haul journeys to Asia on the rise again. With eight of the top ten destinations located in Asia and five of the world’s top Trending Destinations, Asia is clearly the place to be for rising tourism hotspots in 2024. Among the world’s trendiest destinations for 2024, Tokyo, Japan, Seoul, South Korea, and Halong Bay, Vietnam rank highest, based on the percentage increase in interest from the previous year. Bogota, Colombia (ranked #6) and Alajuela, Costa Rica (ranked #8) are the only two areas from Central and South America to reach the top ten.

In light of the fact that 71% of Britons want to revisit their favourite locations this season, reviewers on Tripadvisor are justifiably vocal about the places they like. Dubai has maintained its status as the top destination according to Tripadvisor reviews, earning the title of Top Destination in the World for the third year in a row. London comes out on top in Europe and gets third position globally, behind only Bali. Although it falls short of a global ranking, Edinburgh does manage to secure a slot among Europe’s Top Destinations at number twelve.

New for the year 2024
A new subcategory for the 2024 Best of the Best Sustainable Destinations has been launched by Tripadvisor in partnership with Corona, a global AB InBev brand, in response to the concerns of 74% of British travellers regarding the impact of “overtourism” on destinations. Europe is at the forefront of environmentally responsible cities, securing eight of the top ten positions, as evidenced by the recognition of champions from around the globe who are considered to have strong commitments to sustainability. Asia Pacific is also well-represented, with Singapore and Melbourne being recognised for their efforts, while Copenhagen, Denmark, claims the first position. Belfast occupies the tenth position in the United Kingdom.
